The DeKalb Park District purchased an ice liner for this winter's ice skating season at Hopkins Park. After much work and training, the liner was installed and filled. Unfortunately, the unseasonably warm temperatures have limited ice skating. The rink is currently closed due to poor ice conditions. The edges of the ice rink are currently only 1.5 to 2 inches thick. To put this into perspective, the Department of Natural Resources suggests that lakes have at least 4 inches of ice to safely walk on. District staff will be clearing snow so that the ice can thicken during the upcoming cold streak. We will provide updates as they become available.
