Community Open House at the Adventure Center

DeKalb community and families are welcome to visit and learn about what the NIU Outdoor Adventure program has to offer. Special readings of various children's books by costumed characters. Take a tour and learn about the 50+ items available for low-cost rentals, resources such a library of maps and books to help you plan and prepare for a wide variety of outdoor activities.

Guided by the moonlight get out and explore the outdoors. If there is snow, try out cross-country skiing as a fun activity for the whole family. Meet at Buena Vista Golf Course 131 Buena Vista Drive, DeKalb.

Standup Paddleboard Yoga Workshop at Huntley Middle School

Experience standup paddleboard and practice yoga on the board in the pool. SUP is a growing activity that can be challenging but tons of fun! Included in the registration fee is equipment (SUP, paddle, PFD) and hands-on instruction with a student instructor.

Free! Ice Skate Night

Stop by the Adventure Center inside the Rec for a free opportunity to get out on the ice. Pick your ice skates, choose from hockey or figure, kid sizes available too! On each day your ice skate rental is FREE! They normally rent for $5 pair. FREE, No Registration Required!

Kayak Pool Workshop at Huntley Middle School

This workshop will introduce you to basic kayaking skills, blending skill instruction with practice. During the 2-hour clinic, we will cover fitting a boat, wet-exit, reentry and rescue techniques as well as paddle strokes and bracing. Beginners and first-timers encouraged. Included in the registration fee is equipment (kayak, paddle, PFD) and hands-on instruction with a student instructor.
