Time: 6:00 PM
Location: Hopkins Park Bandshell
When tragedy strikes in local communities, it is exciting to see people come together to support those in need. Local entertainment producer Michael Embrey has come up with a special charity concert that will help benefit the victims of both the DeKalb and Sycamore apartment fires. The DeKalb County Pride Benefit Concert will be held Wednesday evening, August 21st. The concert will be held at the Hopkins Park Band Shell in DeKalb. The pre-show starts at 6:00 PM with the main two bands at 7:00 PM.
There will be a total of five musical acts to entertain the audience. They include a special performance by the talented Reilly Farrell, The Noah Brooks Coalition, The Elderly Brothers Band, Johnny & the Boomers and Luxury Pork Band.
The concert will be free to the public with donations from those that can afford to support the concert. Any and all money raised will be given to the ‘DeKalb County Community Gardens’ who were on the scene at both the DeKalb and Sycamore fires providing food for the victims. The proceeds raised will help provide additional fresh food for the people that lost everything.
DeKalb County Community Gardens (DCCG) is a non-profit organization that empowers people to choose healthy and sustainable foods through education and participation. DCCG was started in 2012 by Dan Kenney to help end hunger and food insecurity in DeKalb County, Illinois.
The theme of the event is “DeKalb County Pride- Communities Coming Together”. According to the concert organizer Michael Embrey, “tragedy should not be defined by a city limit sign”. The goal of the concert is to bring everyone together in a common cause to help those in need. Community unity should be the motto of all the towns and villages that make up DeKalb County.
Welcoming the concert-goers will be Sycamore Mayor Curt Lang and DeKalb Mayor Jerry Smith. In addition to the funds raised for the Dekalb County Community Gardens, these will be many local vendors and organizations offering individual gifts to the victims of both cities. Watch for details of these special donations.
Come early and enjoy the evening. There will be refreshments available to purchase. A nice selection of beverages to purchase hosted by Fatty’s Pub in DeKalb. There will be food for sale by Tom & Jerry’s Restaurant in Sycamore and Boy Scout Troop 33 in DeKalb. Other food vendors may be available.
This event is sponsored in part by the DeKalb Park District, FunME Events and the caring people of DeKalb County. A special thanks to the media and local radio stations that are supporting this effort.
