DeKalb, IL- On May 22, 2020, Governor Pritzker and local health officials announced that our region is entering the ‘Recover Phase’ or Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan on May 29th. This is good news and a sign of our state heading in the right direction.
River Heights Golf Course, located at 1020 Sharon Drive, and Buena Vista Golf Course, located at 131 Buena Vista Drive, both of which have been open to the public since May 1st will see expanded amenities with the start of Phase 3.
Beginning May 29th, the putting greens at both courses and the driving range at Buena Vista will open, although golfers will be asked to remember not to congregate in groups and to maintain social distancing in these areas. While only twosomes were previously permitted, foursomes will now be allowed to play. All golfers will be able to rent golf carts and they will be sanitized before and after each use. Only one cart per person will be allowed unless you are from the same household. The Clubhouse, Pro Shop, and beverage carts will be open with restrictions. River Heights Golf Course will have carry-out alcohol available for purchase and consumption on the outdoor patio.
“It’s been great seeing everyone out golfing. The opportunity to now golf as a foursome and hang out on the outdoor patio, while maintaining social distancing, feels closer to normal,” stated Superintendent of Golf Operations, Steve Moore.
The junior/short game course will be open and ready for play at Buena Vista. The course is a wonderful opportunity to expose junior golfers to this great game. For the adult or advanced player, it’s the perfect way to sharpen up their short game.
“They say the most important part of the game is 100 yards and in,” Moore commented.
General social distancing standards, such as face mask covering when you cannot physically distance 6 feet or less, will remain in place, and golfers will need to abide by the new controls. Players may book in-person, however, it is strongly recommended to continue to book your tee times online or by phone.
“As the region moves into Phase 3 we are excited to see even more outdoor recreation opportunities become available for our residents as seen by these changes at the golf courses,” stated Phil Young, Park Board President.
Select golf programs such as the PGA/LPGA Academy and adult golf lessons are slated to start June 9th. These classes will be limited to eight participants and will still regulate social distancing for the safety of all included. If the region moves to Phase 4 sometime in July, the annual Scholarship Golf Outing has been tentatively rescheduled for Monday, August 3.
We have proved over the past month our ability to operate and play our courses safely, so residents must continue to follow these guidelines so we may continue to enjoy the expanded amenities.
